How does a screw pump work?

Ⅰ.Basic Principle

Screw pump, also known as screw pump, is a device that uses the rotation of the screw vane to make the fluid spiral up along the axial direction. Its working principle is through the prime mover (such as motor or engine) to drive the screw pump shaft rotation, which in turn drives the rotation of the spiral vane.

Ⅱ.Second, the specific process

(1) Suction process

When the screw rotates, the space formed between its raised part and the pump body (or liner) gradually expands, forming a low-pressure area.

Due to the existence of the low-pressure zone, external fluids (such as liquids or gases) are sucked into the pump body under the action of the pressure difference, and enter the space between the screw and the liner.

(2) Compression and propulsion process

As the screw continues to rotate, the fluid being drawn in is compressed and propelled forward along the helix by the action of the screw vanes.

The raised portion of the screw pushes the fluid into the recessed portion, while the high engaging linear velocity of the helical grooves (generally 20~40ms) causes the fluid to be continuously compressed and pushed inside the pump.

As the clearance between the screw and the bushing is small and a continuous confined space is formed during rotation, the liquid is effectively compressed in this space and pushed along the helix to the outlet.

(3) Discharge process

When the fluid is pushed to the outlet, due to the rotation of the screw and the propelling effect of the helix, the fluid forms high pressure at the outlet of the pump and is smoothly discharged from the pump body.

Ⅲ.features and advantages

(1) Simple structure the structure of screw pump is relatively simple and easy to manufacture.

(2) Larger flow due to the rotation of the screw and the propulsion of the helix, the screw pump is able to produce a larger flow.

(3) Strong self-priming ability screw pumps have a certain degree of self-priming ability, and are able to suck in fluids on their own to a certain extent.

(4) Strong adaptability screw pumps can be customised according to different conveying media and working conditions, such as selecting high temperature and corrosion resistant materials and sealing structures.

(5) Continuous conveying screw pumps can achieve continuous conveying of fluids, reduce conveying time and improve work efficiency.
